IHI Southwest Technologies has a long history in NDE services for the nuclear industry. IHI is equipped to perform an array of automated and manual NDE services for a variety of nuclear power plant components.
IHI together with Newton Research Labs (NRL) has developed a strategy to inspect the Reactor Water and Condensate Storage Tanks using NRL’s state-of-the-art underwater tank inspection robot and underwater laser scanner combined with IHI’s state-of-the-art NDE inspection techniques. NRL is a privately held developer and manufacturer of machine vision and robotic systems serving a wide range of industries including: aerospace, automotive, bottling, electronics, medical, and nuclear, among many others.
IHI will utilize high powered optics, high resolution positioning, directional lens LED lighting, lightweight deployment methods, high resolution matrix phased array ultrasonic search units with 3-D ultrasonic imaging software, and a high end eddy current system to perform the inspections.
The Inspector is designed to be deployed through the smallest tank top hatch, a circular diameter of 19 in. (48 cm). Our personnel are certified in accordance with ASNT TC-1-A (Level I, II and III) & CP-189 in multiple NDE disciplines.
